The History of Ushio

Founded in 1964, Ushio Inc. is a global leader in the development and production of specialized light sources and associated equipment. Headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, Ushio started with a vision to revolutionize the field of industrial lighting and has since grown into a highly diversified company with applications across various industries.

Initially, Ushio focused on manufacturing xenon short-arc lamps, which gained recognition for their exceptional brightness and reliability. These lamps became widely adopted in the cinema industry, solidifying Ushio’s position as a key player in the entertainment lighting sector. Over the following decades, the company expanded its portfolio to include halogen lamps, high-intensity discharge lamps, and UV lamps, serving markets such as semiconductors, medical, and environmental industries.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Ushio capitalized on the growing demand for energy-efficient solutions, pioneering advancements in excimer lamps and laser technologies. This innovation allowed the company to break new ground in precision manufacturing and scientific research.

Today, Ushio operates globally, with subsidiaries and partners in 49 countries. Committed to sustainability and technological innovation, Ushio continues to deliver high-performance lighting solutions that support industries ranging from healthcare and agriculture to aerospace and advanced manufacturing.
