Measurement & Sensing

Across a huge number of industries, measuring and sensing technologies using industrial light sources such as Laser Diodes and LEDs are pivotal.

In manufacturing, they enable direct imaging, precise dimension measurement, distance measurement, and speed control in assembly lines and quality inspection. Construction relies on laser levelling and line projection for accurate alignment and positioning. Logistics employs these technologies for distance measurement in automated storage and retrieval systems. Automotive uses Time of Flight (TOF) for 3D mapping and laser-guided assembly processes. In security and surveillance, LED-enhanced cameras provide robust monitoring solutions. Additionally, medical and aerospace industries benefit from precise positioning systems in imaging, diagnostics, microscopy & spectroscopy and equipment calibration. In all these applications laser diodes and LEDs ensure accuracy, efficiency, and safety in critical processes.

Laser diodes (LD) produce highly focused and coherent beams, enabling accurate measurements of distance, dimensions, and speed. Their concentrated light beams perform effectively over long distances, making them ideal for projection and measurement applications. Featuring high output powers, LD-based systems allow for quick, precise and low noise data acquisition which is critical for dynamic environments, fast-moving objects and long-range applications. Therefore, LDs are a staple light source in Time of Flight (TOF) measurements, laser levelling, and line projection. Furthermore, LDs are small, energy-efficient, and easily integrable into various systems. And they are the perfect choice for performance in challenging environments, as they maintain accuracy under extreme conditions like vibrations, dust, and varying temperatures.

For other applications, LEDs offer significant advantages: LEDs consume minimal power, reducing operational costs and supporting energy-conscious systems. Unlike conventional light sources their solid-state construction ensures resistance to shock, vibration, and environmental factors, making them ideal for industrial environments. LEDs have a long operational lifespan, reducing maintenance and downtime. They support a wide range of applications, such as speed measurement, security cameras, and lighting for position sensors. LEDs switch on and off rapidly, enabling precise measurements and real-time sensing. Minimal heat output ensures stable performance, even in sensitive applications.
