Ushio Adds Automotive-G-rade Red Laser Diode to Support Next-Generation In-Vehicle and Road Projection

Ushio Inc. (Head Office: Tokyo, President and CEO: Takabumi Asahi, hereinafter “Ushio”) announced that it has added the HL63723DGAM, an Automotive Grade Reliability Standards AEC-Q102 compliant red laser diode, to its product line-up as of March 2026.

Based on the mass-produced HL63723DG platform, the device offers a wavelength of 642 nm and a high optical output power of 200 mW.

Automotive design teams are increasingly challenged to deliver clear, adaptive visual communication both inside and outside the vehicle. Conventional lighting and projection technologies often face limitations in brightness, color performance, and durability under extreme operating conditions, restricting their use in safety-critical and continuous-operation applications.

The HL63723DGAM addresses these challenges by combining proven performance with automotive-grade qualification: It has passed rigorous reliability tests required for automotive optical semiconductor devices, including stable operation across a wide temperature range from -40°C to 85°C, vibration, shock, and humidity. Compliance with AEC-Q102 standards ensures its suitability for long-life vehicle systems.

These capabilities enable broader adoption of laser-based projection technologies in automotive applications, including road surface projection for signaling and hazard communication, head-up displays (HUDs) with enhanced visibility and color fidelity, and in-cabin projection for driver information and passenger interaction, contributing to improved safety and enhanced in-vehicle experiences.
